Hang Together by The Gathering Homeschool Theatre Guild
The Gathering of Home School Theater Guild Presents Hang Together!
Hang Together is an original musical that charts the tumultuous years from the passage of the Intolerable Acts in 1774 to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The story follows the lives of radical firebrands like Sam Adams, the steadfast Abigail and John Adams, the wealthy John Hancock, and the witty Benjamin Franklin as they navigate the transition from loyal British subjects to revolutionary Americans.
Set against the backdrop of a Boston under siege, the play highlights not only the famous political debates in Philadelphia but also the domestic sacrifices and the "street-level" rebellion led by figures such as Sarah Bradlee Fulton and Dr. Joseph Warren. From the tension of the midnight rides of Revere, Dawes, and Prescott to the "shot heard 'round the world" at Lexington and the bloody heights of Breed’s Hill, the musical explores the heavy price of liberty and the spiritual and political liberation of a new nation.
While we have taken artistic liberties with the timeline and imagined certain personal interactions to weave a cohesive narrative, we have endeavored to remain faithful to the spirit of the era. Many lines are direct quotes from primary source documents like the speeches and letters of the historical figures represented.
Performance will take place on Friday, May 29th at 6 p.m. and is FREE and open to the public. The play will take place in the museum’s historic 1904 courtroom located at 301 E. Main Street in Jefferson, NC. For more information (336) 846-1904.
